A compact campus, clear business strength and city access

Saint Mary's offers Arts, Commerce, Science and Engineering Diploma programs on one walkable campus in Halifax's South End. It combines a medium-sized urban setting with a particularly visible professional focus through the Sobey School of Business.

The university also offers programs across psychology, computing, environmental science, astrophysics, international development, criminology and the humanities. Program structures and co-op eligibility must be checked separately.

What distinguishes Saint Mary's

  • A compact South End campus combining classes, residence and student services
  • Twelve BComm majors and flexible combinations through the Sobey School
  • Co-op options in eligible Arts, Commerce and Science programs
  • Applied interdisciplinary pathways such as Computing Science and Business Administration
  • A distinct single-campus profile within Halifax's university landscape

Learning in Halifax: between campus and city

Saint Mary's is urban but still forms a clear campus centre through its connected buildings, residences and athletics. It can suit students seeking city access without a fully dispersed downtown experience.

Halifax can extend learning through employers, public institutions and community organisations, but networking, projects and co-op remain competitive and require active participation.

The Sobey BComm builds a broad business foundation in the first two years, followed by a choice among twelve majors, including accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, analytics and sustainability.

Students can consider double majors, minors, certificates and optional co-op. Co-op eligibility and employment are not automatic, and international students must meet work-permit rules.

Admissions scholarships and entrance awards

By February 15

Applicants with a completed undergraduate application by February 15 may be assessed for competitive admissions scholarships. A separate Entrance Awards application covers awards based on academics, need, community and activities, including Presidential/Santamarian and eligible Sobey awards.

International applicants may be eligible, but awards are selective and do not guarantee full cost or renewal. Tuition reductions apply only to named school/program groups. Plan multi-year funding without assuming an award.

Who may be a good fit for Saint Mary's?

  • Students seeking flexible business and applied learning
  • Applicants preferring a compact, walkable Halifax campus
  • Students ready to participate actively in co-op, cases, societies and networking
  • Learners wanting Arts or Science options in a medium-sized institution

For Sobey, read degree flexibility and experience planning together

Saint Mary's may be less suitable for students seeking a very large research ecosystem or a King's-style core-text liberal arts experience. Co-op and scholarships should not be treated as guaranteed.
