DAL

A comprehensive Atlantic Canadian research university

Dalhousie spans Halifax's Studley, Sexton and Carleton campuses and the Agricultural Campus in Truro. Programs across arts, science, computing, engineering, management and health differ in prerequisites, co-op access and cost.

Its scale creates a broad network of courses, laboratories, research centres and student groups. Students still need to seek advising, office hours, research and career support actively.

What distinguishes Dalhousie

  • Three city-integrated Halifax campuses and a distinct Agricultural Campus in Truro
  • Broad undergraduate choice from humanities to engineering and health
  • Research opportunities across laboratories, fieldwork, archives and community projects
  • Co-op and work-integrated learning options in many programs
  • A tuition guarantee for new international students in eligible faculties

Dalhousie, King's and Halifax's academic ecosystem

Dalhousie and the University of King's College have maintained a formal relationship since 1923. King's remains a distinct small institution, while Dalhousie provides a larger research and faculty ecosystem.

Eligible students may cross-register in approved areas, but faculty, degree, capacity and prerequisite rules still apply. Admission to one institution does not create unrestricted access to every program at the other.

Undergraduate research is distributed across faculties and can take the form of laboratory work, summer projects, honours theses, fieldwork, archives or community-based inquiry.

Co-op availability and entry rules vary by program. It can add paid work terms, but placement is not automatic and international students must also meet immigration requirements.

Applying to Dalhousie from Türkiye

Dalhousie lists the Devlet Lise Diploması or Lise Bitirme Diploması for applicants educated in Türkiye. Applicants must also meet the selected program's overall average and subject prerequisites; minimum requirements do not guarantee admission.

Current English minimums include IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, the pre-January-2026 TOEFL iBT 90 with no band below 20, or Duolingo 120. Deadlines and the new TOEFL scale must be verified for the relevant cycle.

Entrance awards and scholarships

About CAD 1,000–80,000

Domestic and international high-school applicants may use the General Entrance Award application. Official guidance says values typically range from about CAD 1,000 in first year to CAD 80,000 over four years, with academic, leadership, community, identity and/or financial-need criteria.

Eligibility does not guarantee an award, and some funds are restricted by citizenship, region or program. Build a sustainable budget without an award and verify the relevant cycle's deadline.

Who may be a good fit for Dalhousie?

  • Students able to compare faculty, campus and prerequisite differences
  • Learners who will actively pursue research, co-op or community projects
  • Applicants seeking Halifax's health, technology, public and cultural ecosystem
  • Independent students who proactively use advising and support

Choose the program, campus and experience model together

Dalhousie may not suit students expecting consistently small classes, close supervision or a single uniform campus experience. Compare programs and campuses rather than choosing by name alone.
