An undergraduate-focused research university

Princeton combines major research resources with a pronounced institutional focus on undergraduate education. Students pursue either the liberal-arts A.B. or engineering-focused B.S.E. pathway.

Independent work—from junior papers to the senior thesis—asks students to sustain a question through method, advising, revision and a defensible result.

What distinguishes Princeton

  • A strong undergraduate focus within a major research university
  • Precepts that turn lecture material into small-group analysis
  • Independent work culminating in major projects or a senior thesis
  • Distinct A.B. liberal-arts and B.S.E. engineering pathways
  • Residential colleges and a campus-centred community

Precepts, advising and residential colleges

Precepts are central small-group sessions where students test evidence, assumptions and problem-solving after larger classes. Preparation matters more than simply talking often.

Residential-college and departmental advising support the transition from exploration to concentration or engineering department, while thesis advisers guide later independent work.

Junior papers and the senior thesis

Independent work is a defining feature. Many A.B. students complete junior papers and a substantial senior thesis through a cycle of scope, method, evidence, advising and revision.

B.S.E. independent work may be a thesis, laboratory study, design project or team-based engineering experience. The process develops planning, judgment, communication and comfort with uncertainty.

A.B. and B.S.E. academic pathways

A.B. · Humanities

History, literature, classics, philosophy, religion, art and archaeology centre language, texts, archives and argument.

A.B. · Social Sciences

Economics, politics, sociology, anthropology, psychology and policy-related fields use quantitative and qualitative analysis.

A.B. · Natural Sciences

Molecular biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, mathematics and geosciences combine theory, laboratory and computation.

B.S.E. · Engineering

Computer, electrical, mechanical, chemical-biological, civil-environmental and operations-related fields begin with an intensive technical foundation.

Applying to Princeton from Türkiye

Princeton requires the Common Application, Princeton questions, school materials, two teacher recommendations, midyear grades and a required teacher-graded written paper.

The 2026–27 cycle for Fall 2027 entry remains test-optional. Princeton plans to require testing again for Fall 2028 entry, so applicants must check the policy for their own year. Some international applicants also need an approved English test.

Need-blind, grant-based aid

100% demonstrated need

Princeton states that admission is need-blind, including for international applicants, and that demonstrated need is met with grants rather than loans in the standard package.

Princeton does not award merit aid. Family contribution is calculated under institutional methodology and packages vary with documentation.

Who may be a good fit for Princeton?

  • Students ready to sustain an independent question over months
  • Prepared contributors to small-group precepts
  • Applicants making an informed A.B. or B.S.E. choice
  • Learners who seek faculty feedback and manage long projects

Independence means ownership with advising, not isolation

Princeton may not suit students who dislike open-ended research or choose only by ranking. Its extreme selectivity requires balanced alternatives.

How TeamMate Academy supports a Princeton application

We plan around academic preparation, the graded paper, independent-work potential and a balanced list—not one testing decision.

  • A.B./B.S.E. fit and prerequisite review
  • Entry-year testing strategy
  • Graded-paper selection and translation checks
  • Essay development
  • Document and aid timeline
  • Balanced school list
